In May 2022, ELIXENS has published its ethical and CSR charter in order to share its philosophy and values with employees, customers and stakeholders.
This work provided an opportunity to review our longstanding commitments and set goals for the coming years. Formalizing our CSR charter was our first step, involving deep reflections on our purpose and the objectives we wanted to pursue. To do this, we engaged in discussions with our employees, clients, suppliers, and partners.
In 2023, we shared with you an initial progress update. Today, we are here to present the results of an additional year of efforts to preserve our natural resources and strengthen our social relationships.
This new report highlights the company’s ongoing efforts to balance social, environmental, and economic performance in a challenging context.
Here is a structured summary of the key points.
Context and commitments
In 2022, Elixens published an ethics and CSR charter, reaffirming its longstanding commitments while setting new goals for the years to come.
In 2023, the company’s economic performance was modest, but it succeeded in improving its social and environmental performance. Elixens emphasized its role as a buffer in a strained economic environment, maintaining a protective social policy for its employees, supporting purchasing power, and implementing a responsible sourcing policy with its suppliers. The company also adapted its collaboration with clients to respond to the current situation.
Environmental performance
Environmental impact was a priority for Elixens, with notable progress in 2023:
• Reduction in Energy Consumption: electricity consumption decreased by 15%, mainly due to reduced activity and energy efficiency measures, such as relamping some buildings and insulating installations. Additionally, the electricity purchased by Elixens is 100% green.
• Carbon Footprint: Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions decreased by 6% in 2023. Elixens also improved its tracking of emissions related to its agricultural supply chains, enabling better estimation of inputs and Scope 3 emissions.
• Waste Reduction and Recycling: 100% of the waste produced in 2023 was recovered or recycled, and actions were taken to limit the use of plastic packaging, although further improvements are needed in the long term.
• Actions for Biodiversity: Elixens strengthened its commitments to biodiversity through agroforestry projects, the planting of hedgerows, and local initiatives such as planting 750 trees in partnership with the Biovallée Association.
Social performance
Elixens is committed to providing fair and safe working conditions:
• Workplace Safety: Preventive measures, such as fire drills and health and safety training, were implemented. However, the target for reducing the frequency rate of workplace accidents was not fully met due to an incident.
• Training and Recognition: A strong focus on training was maintained, with 1.7% of working hours dedicated to training programs. The company also provided a value-sharing bonus for the third consecutive year despite a challenging economic context.
• Diversity and Gender Equality: Elixens maintained a workforce composed of 47% women, with 57% women in its management committee. The company also promoted the inclusion of people with disabilities.
