A word on quality

Because quality is not just an empty concept, we implement a policy involving the certification of our products and manufacturing methods. These certificates, issued by independent and respected organisations, are safety assurances for consumers or end-users. We keep a constant watch on the legislation that effects the fragrances and flavours industry.

The ELIXENS group has a long time commitment to implementing environmentally friendly methods throughout the whole chain of production, ensuring consumer safety and the promotion of natural substances. Our subsidiaries have been awarded ISO 9001: 2008 certification.

Our organic products have been certified by Ecocert, an international certification body recognised by public authorities. This certificate guarantees that environmentally friendly methods have really been implemented throughout the whole chain of production and vouches for consumer safety and the use of environmentally superior natural substances (equivalence with NOP import certificate - for export to the USA - USDA Organic)

In the Drôme region (in the heart of France), our raw material suppliers are farmers of the Sica Bioplantes cooperative, France’s leading producer of Organic medicinal and aromatic plants. This represents 30 different plant species cultivated on 400 hectares of land free from chemical pesticides, fertilizers or weed-killers. The soil is nourished with compost made from straw from the distillery. Everything produced by Sica Bioplantes is certified by ECOCERT.

Following the takeover of Sanoflore’s Raw Materials division in March 2010, which is accompanied by an exclusive partnership with Sica Bioplantes, the ELIXENS France division, member of the BIOPARTENAIRE association, has been recognized having an organic domestic fair trade commitment. Monitored and controlled by ECOCERT, it is authorized to attest its involvement in organic domestic fair trade approved by ECOCERT Environnement, according to ESR standards (Fairness, Solidarity & Responsibility) for a large number of its locally produced raw materials, essential oils, hydrolates and floral waters (list of products recognized ORGANIC FAIR TRADE on request).

In accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), we scrupulously observe essential good manufacturing practices with regards people, hygienic conditions on the premises, manufacturing operations, labelling, packaging and quality control of aromatic raw materials.

In accordance with European Cosmetics Directives 76/768/EEC and 2003/15/EEC, we guarantee the quality of our products, the absence of extracts and ingredients derived from bovine, ovine and caprine tissues and liquids and the absence of animal experimentation.

Within the framework of Reach, European Regulation 1907/2006, we have pre-registered the chemical substances that we import or produce when quantities exceed one ton per year within the European Community.

With regard to raw materials used in pharmaceuticals, we have obtained GMP certification from ANSM (National agency for health product safety, in France) stating that we observe Good Manufacturing Practices.

Herb products

For thousands of years, peoples’ lives have been influenced by the use of medicinal plants. From generation to generation, nature has generously provided them with plant remedies to ensure their physical and mental well-being. As long ago as 4000 BC, Sumeriens inscribed the first plant remedy formulas on clay plates in the Middle East. The Egyptians (2700 BC) made aromatic products such as fragrant oils and waters and cosmetic dressings for body care and embalming. The Greeks and Romans also used a lot of aromatic products. Even then, Hippocrates recommended essential oils for their curative properties.

Nowadays, the curative properties of plants are attracting more and more consumers concerned about their health and well-being. To meet this demand, we have developed a line of dried plants and essences to be used in aromatherapy for their antiseptic properties (antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and pest control), for indoor hygiene (prevention and treatment of infectious diseases), for beauty treatments, for relaxation, etc.

Technological know-how

Our team offers a large selection of natural, made-to order ingredients. To do this, we have efficient equipment:

- Distillation columns to produce essential oils by steaming (continuous distillation) on the sites in the Comoros and Ukraine.

- Extraction plants to produce concretes in the Comoros and in the Ukraine.

- Tanks for combining and blending to homogenise and prepare the orders.

- Continuous filtration and centrifuge machines.

- Continuous filling lines for packaging (from 500 kg to 15,000 kg).

- Drying ovens for solids and pastes.

- Distillation columns for the rectification and deterpenation process.

The quality of our productions is scrupulously monitored by laboratories equipped with tools to test colours, measure physical properties (density, refraction index, rotary power), measure chemical properties (acid index, peroxide index, phenol concentration, aldehyde concentration, ester concentration) and carry out gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, bacterial and organoleptic analysis.

Allergen light

To respond to our customers’ concerns, we have carried out a detailed study on the level of allergens present in our essential oils and developed ranges and/or products that are hypoallergenic and do not require further labelling. This study integrates the instructions in the 7th amendment of the 1976 European directive on cosmetics (76/768/EEC).

Therefore, we offer a selection of essential oils with naturally low levels of allergens (less than 1%).

We have also developed a range of “Allergen-light essential oils” with lowered levels of allergens: camomile, geranium, lavandin, lavender essential oils. Other essences are being studied and will soon be added to this range of natural raw materials containing very few allergenic substances.

Certificates relating to “food allergens” and “Cosmetic Directive 2003/15/EEC cosmetic allergens” will be supplied on request.

100 % pure and et natural essential oils

The care taken to harvest and produce essential oils is of vital importance. Indeed, the origin of the plants, the harvesting processes and extraction methods determine the final characteristics of the oil. This is why we carry out rigorous controls in our production areas in the Indian Ocean and Ukraine and keep a close watch on our partnerships with local producers in Provence and Latin America.

Our essential oils are therefore guaranteed 100% pure and natural.

Our range of world essences reveals the great abundance of nature:

– Provence: lavender (true, clonal), lavandin (grosso, abrial, super, sumian), hyssop, tarragon, cypress, etc.

– Indian Ocean: ylang-ylang, clove buds and stems, neroli, geranium, patchouli, petitgrain, etc.
