Our Professions

A world of scents and flavours

The intoxicating fragrances of tropical plants and authentic freshness of lavender fields in Provence …

Our natural raw materials come from the heart of our lands of production so we can offer the very soul of the fragrances to our customers, i.e. specialists of fine perfumery, cosmetics and aromatherapy and food and pharmaceutical industries.

All our aromatic ingredients scrupulously comply with French and international regulations.
Therefore, we pay special attention to analysing the naturalness, allergen levels and colour of our essences.

100 % pure and et natural essential oils

The care taken to harvest and produce essential oils is of vital importance. Indeed, the origin of the plants, the harvesting processes and extraction methods determine the final characteristics of the oil. This is why we carry out rigorous controls in our production areas in the Indian Ocean and Ukraine and keep a close watch on our partnerships with local producers in Provence and Latin America.

Our essential oils are therefore guaranteed 100% pure and natural.

Our range of world essences reveals the great abundance of nature:

– Provence: lavender (true, clonal), lavandin (grosso, abrial, super, sumian), hyssop, tarragon, cypress, etc.

– Indian Ocean: ylang-ylang, clove buds and stems, neroli, geranium, patchouli, petitgrain, etc.

– Eastern Europe: coriander, Clary sage, Artemisia, dill, caraway, fennel, etc.

– Latin America: orange, lemon, grapefruit, petitgrain, etc.

– Fine essences: carrot, lovage, parsley, cypress, camomile, etc.

– And a whole range of Organic essences: lavender, peppermint, sweet mint, ylang-ylang, neroli, etc.

All the certificates of origin, purity and naturalness of our essential oils can be supplied on request.

Certificates issued: analysis reports, physico-chemical technical specifications, safety data sheets, non-GMO certificate, BSE certificate, food compatibility certificate, IFRA certificate, certificate of conformity with Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC. Ecocert and USDA NOP certification.

Allergen light

To respond to our customers’ concerns, we have carried out a detailed study on the level of allergens present in our essential oils and developed ranges and/or products that are hypoallergenic and do not require further labelling. This study integrates the instructions in the 7th amendment of the 1976 European directive on cosmetics (76/768/EEC).

Therefore, we offer a selection of essential oils with naturally low levels of allergens (less than 1%).

We have also developed a range of “Allergen-light essential oils” with lowered levels of allergens: camomile, geranium, lavandin, lavender essential oils. Other essences are being studied and will soon be added to this range of natural raw materials containing very few allergenic substances.

Certificates relating to “food allergens” and “Cosmetic Directive 2003/15/EEC cosmetic allergens” will be supplied on request.

Technological know-how

Our team offers a large selection of natural, made-to order ingredients. To do this, we have efficient equipment:

- Distillation columns to produce essential oils by steaming (continuous distillation) on the sites in the Comoros and Ukraine.

- Extraction plants to produce concretes in the Comoros and in the Ukraine.

- Drying ovens for solids and pastes.

- Distillation columns for the rectification and deterpenation process.

The quality of our productions is scrupulously monitored by laboratories equipped with tools to test colours, measure physical properties (density, refraction index, rotary power), measure chemical properties (acid index, peroxide index, phenol concentration, aldehyde concentration, ester concentration) and carry out gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, bacterial and organoleptic analysis.

Herb products

For thousands of years, peoples’ lives have been influenced by the use of medicinal plants. From generation to generation, nature has generously provided them with plant remedies to ensure their physical and mental well-being. As long ago as 4000 BC, Sumeriens inscribed the first plant remedy formulas on clay plates in the Middle East. The Egyptians (2700 BC) made aromatic products such as fragrant oils and waters and cosmetic dressings for body care and embalming. The Greeks and Romans also used a lot of aromatic products. Even then, Hippocrates recommended essential oils for their curative properties.

Nowadays, the curative properties of plants are attracting more and more consumers concerned about their health and well-being. To meet this demand, we have developed a line of dried plants and essences to be used in aromatherapy for their antiseptic properties (antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and pest control), for indoor hygiene (prevention and treatment of infectious diseases), for beauty treatments, for relaxation, etc.

Quality, regulations, know-how

Our expertise in dealing with industrial challenges facing the food industry has led us to give top priority to food safety.

In 1994, our production site in Saint Ouen l'Aumône set up a process to control the quality of its products and services. This process bore its fruits in 1996, when we obtained ISO 9001 certification for our quality management system (version 94), followed by ISO 9001 certification (version 2008).

An HACCP study compliant with Codex Alimentarius instructions confirmed the quality of our manufacturing methods.

In accordance with regulation 178/2002/CE, laying down procedures in matters of food safety, we scrupulously implement the rules related to traceability, information, notification and the control of products. We are in regular contact with ANSM (the French agency for health product safety) and we constantly control the quality of our products.

Finally, in November 2014, ELIXENS France obtained FSSC 22000 certification, positioning the company among the pioneers of French flavor manufacturers. By obtaining this certification ELIXENS France confirms its teams' daily involvement in food safety measures within the company, a global safety and quality policy the ELIXENS group has been attached to for many years.

By choosing to adopt the FSSC 22000 standard, ELIXENS France joins a most demanding and efficient food safety scheme, to benefit both internally and for its customers:

  • A single, globally-accepted standard that is recognized in many countries,
  • Uniform food safety procedures that are applicable worldwide,
  • Improved communication with trading partners by means of a unique auditing platform,
  • Better understanding and implementation of HACCP principles, helping identify, evaluate, and control hazards related to food safety throughout the food production and its supply chain,
  • A driver for continuous improvement, due to ISO's known management system approach,
  • Obligation to achieve results, allowing nevertheless free choice of means to get there,
  • Improved food safety hazard control.

The legislation department is actively involved in all orders, enabling us to check that Directives and Regulations on flavourings are properly applied, depending on the country.

The legislation department processes our customers’ product questionnaires and provides them with all the certificates they require (Kosher, Halal, GMO-free, BSE-free, allergen-free and Organic).

All our material safety data sheets are available on http://www.quickfds.com using product code.

To create our flavours, we have three laboratories, each of which has its own specific skills. One laboratory specialises in sweet formulations for producers of dairy products, beverages, confectionery, biscuits, etc. Another specialises in savoury formulations to address the challenges facing producers of ready-made meals, snacks, condiments, etc. And the third application laboratory tests our flavours in the finished products.

We have six production workshops equipped with powder and liquid mixers, emulsifiers/homogenizers, atomisation towers, granulators and distillation columns, reactors, terpene removers (total capacity: 2,500 tons per year).

Finally, our analytical laboratory tests incoming and outgoing products and performs chemical and physico-chemical analyses (gas-liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, densitometry, flash point, refractometry, spectrophotometry, pH metry, etc.) and some microbiological analyses (total aerobic mesophilic flora, yeasts, moulds and coliforms).
